RIUCHI
As we learn to fit into society, there’s a precious part of ourselves that we don’t let shine through. I want to create these performances to question the meaning of everyone’s true identity. What are the buried treasures left behind while we play the part of being someone else? Through the character of Riuchi, I explore my lost roots and discover, deep inside, what could have been if I had chosen other paths. Growing up, to prevent that line from breaking ever again, I reinvented an imaginary version of myself. As a consequence of that dream, Riuchi was born.
The character RIUCHI – warrior and alchemist synonymously – comes from the imagination of my Asian identity. I grew up nourished by Japanese animation, dreaming of jumping high while launching fireballs at imaginary assailants. From those fictional adventures of struggle and triumph, a tale was born and Riuchi emerged from a mystical Eastern land. Riuchi communicates through movements that are based on the theories of martial arts through self-taught techniques and training. Within this context, I create movements enriched with grace, purity and a focus that seems effortless. I have received several awards, was one of the winners of Ireland’s New Emerging Artists 2016 and am currently a member of the prestigious French Magic Team.
