“Growing up, I found a link to my ancestors through Asian films and animation. To prevent that line from breaking ever again, I have reinvented an imaginary version of myself. As a consequence of that dream, Riuchi was born.”

Riuchi’s 2013 first opus “The Tale of The Ancient Lights” toured in more than 10 countries, winning Best Performance and Best Lighting at Galway Fringe Festival 2014, was nominated for Bewley’s Café Theatre “Little Gem” Award at Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival 2014 and was featured on the RTE Today show. The Irish Times has described it as “an intriguing synthesis of technology and a skilled and imaginative performer.”

Riuchi has been the recipient of awards by the Arts Council of Ireland, Cork City Council, the French Embassy, Culture Ireland and recently has been recognized as the prominent Emerging Irish Circus Performer 2016.

An old master in a mystical temple set in a fantasy world. As he opens a scroll, a butterfly escapes and illuminates the darkness. Enter an alchemist, a geisha and a Kung Fu master, all connected by this little creature. As their life unfolds, it questions the true nature of beauty.

This is the tale of Riuchi and his “Dreams of Light”.

“As we learn the need to fit into society, there’s a precious part of ourselves that we won’t let shine through. Riuchi aims at creating performances to question the meaning of everyone true identity. What are the buried treasures left behind while we play the part of being someone else?”

This new performance is a pure Cork creation, an intimate representation of the collaborations and relationships fostered by the solo performer with local renowned directors, artists, music composers, consultants, technicians and engineers.

Aiming at family audience, the one-hour performance tailored for theatre up to 300, will mix of circus, dance, new magic, technology and genuine engineered set design. “Dreams of Light” will première in 2017 during the Cork Midsummer festival at the Everyman Palace theatre before touring Europe.
